Public institutions and local authorities invited to showcase their sustainable energy projects at the 2026 Edition of the Moldova Eco Energetică Competition
18 September 2026, Chisinau – Public institutions and local public authorities in the Republic of Moldova that have implemented energy efficiency and renewable energy projects are invited to showcase their results as part of the 2026 edition of the national Moldova Eco Energetică competition. The competition is organised by the National Centre for Sustainable Energy (CNED) in partnership with the Ministry of Energy.
Through the projects they implement, public institutions contribute to reducing energy consumption and costs, improving conditions in public buildings and increasing the energy independence of communities. At the same time, the experience of institutions that have already invested in energy efficiency and renewable energy can serve as an example for other authorities and communities across the country.
“Investments in energy efficiency and renewable energy sources strengthen the Republic of Moldova’s energy security, while their results are directly felt in communities: more comfortable public buildings, lower energy bills and better services for citizens. Through the Moldova Eco Energetică competition, we want to acknowledge institutions and local authorities that turn national objectives into concrete projects and promote the replication of these good practices throughout the country. We encourage all eligible institutions to showcase their projects and demonstrate that the transition towards clean and efficient energy is built at the level of every community,” said Dorin Junghietu, Minister of Energy.
“Energy efficiency is not only about reducing consumption, but also about making investments that bring concrete long-term benefits to institutions and communities. When a local authority, school, kindergarten, hospital or other public institution reduces its energy consumption, the resulting savings can be redirected towards other services and community needs. At the same time, these projects demonstrate that the energy transition can deliver tangible results here and now. Through Moldova Eco Energetică, we bring to the forefront each year institutions that have already taken steps in this direction. We encourage as many authorities as possible to follow these examples,” said Ion Muntean, Director of CNED.
For this year’s edition, projects implemented by public institutions and local public authorities since 1 January 2024 may be submitted, provided that they have not been selected as winners in previous editions.
Projects may be submitted under one of the following categories:
- Best Energy Efficiency Project in Public Buildings;
- Best Renewable Electricity Generation Project in Public Buildings
- Best Renewable Heat Generation Project in Public Buildings;
- Best Energy Efficiency Project in Street Lighting;
- Special Award for the Best Energy Efficiency and/or Renewable Energy Project Implemented by a Woman.
Around 20 public institutions participated in the previous edition, presenting projects and solutions implemented in the public sector. This year’s edition aims to showcase new examples of good practice and highlight the impact of investments made by public institutions in reducing energy consumption and energy costs, as well as in improving the conditions and services provided to citizens.
The application period is 18 September - 31 October 2026.
The winners will be announced at the 2026 Moldova Eco Energetică Gala, which will take place on 4 December 2026. The event will celebrate projects that contribute to more efficient energy consumption, the use of renewable energy sources and the sustainable development of communities.
