The EcoVoucher Program supports an additional 6.578 families in replacing old household appliances with energy-efficient ones
26 May 2025, Chișinău - The EcoVoucher Program continues to support families in the Republic of Moldova in replacing their old, energy-consuming appliances with energy-efficient alternatives. An additional 6.578 vouchers have been made available to households across the country with the launch of the new application session, running from May 26 to June 15.
The vouchers, worth 6,000 MDL each, are distributed in consecutive sessions based on data provided by households via the platform compensatii.gov.md. Priority is given to families with many children and to households with two or three elderly persons over the age of 63. Notifications are sent via SMS from GOV1.MD, by email, or through the personal account on the platform. Each voucher is valid only during the active session period and can be used exclusively in the network of partner stores for the purchase of refrigerators (including models with integrated freezers – energy classes A, B, C, and D) and washing machines (energy class A) that meet the energy efficiency criteria and European Conformity (CE) standards.
Vouchers can be redeemed in 8 partner retail chains, comprising over 80 points of sale across the country. A condition of the program is that beneficiaries must pay the co-payment for the new appliance and hand over an old appliance of the same type for recycling.
"Designed during the energy crisis, when international prices reached record levels, this program is a long-term solution to reduce household bills, as well as to achieve national targets for reducing energy waste and greenhouse gas emissions. We can meet these ambitious goals, and we thank our development partners for their support," said Minister of Energy, Dorin Junghietu.
“The EcoVoucher Program is increasingly seen not only as a social assistance mechanism but also as part of a broader transformation in everyday consumption practices. We are witnessing a steady rise in interest toward energy efficiency and a growing tendency among families to consider the long-term benefits of resource savings,” stated Ion Muntean, Director of the National Center for Sustainable Energy (CNED).
“For Norway, supporting vulnerable households in the Republic of Moldova is a priority. We are proud to observe that the EcoVoucher Program is making a significant difference in people’s lives, while also promoting social equality and sustainability in the energy sector,” said Kamilla H. Kolshus, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy Office of Norway in Chișinău.
“EcoVoucher demonstrates stability and potential for expansion. The growing network of partners, increased involvement, and greater public awareness show that the program has already become a sustainable mechanism with the capacity to further develop,” added Christian Borchard, Implementation Manager of the E4M component funded by Norway at GIZ.
In the current round of the program, it is estimated that up to 32,000 families will benefit from this support. In the first two sessions of this year alone, more than 10,600 households received financial aid to purchase new, energy-efficient equipment, and since the program’s launch, over 25,000 families have replaced an old appliance through EcoVoucher.
