April 243, 2026, Chișinău – The Lisnic family from the village of Step-Soci, Orhei district, has successfully transformed their home into a warmer, more energy-efficient space with lower heating costs and improved comfort for the entire family. These changes were made possible through the support of the State Program – the Energy Efficiency Fund in the Residential Sector of Moldova (FEERM), managed by the National Center for Sustainable Energy.

For the Lisnic family, the renovation meant more than just technical upgrades—it brought a real improvement in their quality of life. Previously, maintaining warmth in the house required constant effort due to uninsulated walls and significant heat loss. Now, the home retains heat much better. This winter, the indoor temperature remained consistently around 23°C, even during colder periods.

Through the FEERM Program, with the support of the European Union and Germany, the house benefited from energy rehabilitation works identified following an energy audit. External walls were thermally insulated, the plinth was insulated to protect against moisture, a drainage system for rainwater was installed, energy-efficient windows were fitted, and the heating system was upgraded with the installation of a biomass boiler and radiators throughout the house. 50% of the costs were covered by the European Union and the German Government, another 45% was financed through the Energy Vulnerability Reduction Fund, and the family contributed only 5% of the total cost.

The family is raising four children, aged between 6 and 16, and leads an active life where each day involves school, responsibilities, and various activities. The parents are engaged both in their jobs and in creating a stable environment for their children.

Roman works as a sales consultant at a tools shop, while his wife, Liliana, is a cashier at the bus station in Orhei. In these conditions, a warm and comfortable home becomes essential for the family’s balance and everyday security.

Real savings and reduced effort

One of the most visible results is the reduction in firewood consumption. Previously, the house was heated with three stoves and required about six loads of firewood. Now, thanks to the modern boiler and wall insulation, the family uses twice as little wood—around three loads for the entire house.

“This winter it was much easier to maintain warmth in the house. The difference is noticeable both in comfort and in reduced expenses,” said Roman Lisnic.

More and more households across the country are benefiting from similar interventions, which bring real savings and improved living conditions in the long term.

The FEERM Program is developed by the Government of the Republic of Moldova with financial support from the European Union, implemented by the National Center for Sustainable Energy and the Ministry of Energy, and supported through the project “Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energies for Moldova” (E4M). E4M is implemented by GIZ together with the Government of the Republic of Moldova, funded by the German Government and co-financed by the European Union, Norway, and Denmark.
