May 8, 2025, Chișinău - A total of 5,961 vouchers for replacing old household appliances with new, energy-efficient ones were redeemed by households across the Republic of Moldova during the April 14 – May 4, 2025 session of the EcoVoucher Program.

This initiative, developed by the Government of the Republic of Moldova with support from the European Union and financed in this edition by Norway, aims to replace energy-inefficient appliances with modern alternatives. The program helps to reduce electricity consumption, lower energy bills, and improve the living conditions of the most vulnerable citizens.

The majority of beneficiaries this session were large families – 4,732 in total. Most of these families had three or more children and were facing energy vulnerability. Additionally, 1,229 vouchers were used by households composed of two or three elderly people over 63.

"The popularity of the EcoVoucher program continues to grow, clearly reflecting the population’s increasing trust in this initiative. In the recently concluded session, we surpassed 25,000 beneficiaries who have redeemed vouchers since the program's launch in 2023 – families who now not only have access to modern, energy-efficient appliances, but also enjoy greater comfort and a better quality of life”, says Ion Muntean, Director of the National Center for Sustainable Energy.

Each voucher, worth 6,000 MDL, covered up to 70% of the cost of a new household appliance. To date, over 25,500 vouchers have been used under the EcoVoucher Program, helping thousands of households across the country reduce energy consumption and upgrade their home appliances.

"Norway is proud to support Moldova’s  transition to energy efficiency. Through the EcoVoucher program, we are also reaching families in urgent need of support – parents raising multiple children and elderly people. We are glad to see how this promotes awareness of high-efficiency appliances,  and at the same time has a positive impact on the environment since CO2 is saved and old equipment will be recycled" says Kamilla H. Kolshus, Chargé d’Affaires of the Norwegian Embassy in Chișinău.

"This session confirms once again that the EcoVoucher mechanism works:it is widely perceived, accessible, and still has potential for scaling up. We are honoured to support this collective effort that promotes the understanding of the new EU energy label and highlights its immediate cost saving effects and technological advantages  ", says Christian Borchard, E4M implementation manager at GIZ for the Norway funded component.

The next EcoVoucher session will be launched soon, offering new opportunities for Moldovan households to switch to energy-efficient appliances.
